Sushi (寿司 or souchi) is a Japanese dish consisting of vinegared rice called shari (舎 利) combined with another ingredient called neta (寿司 ネタ) which is usually raw fish or seafood
That is, outside of Japan, one of the iconic dishes of Japanese cuisine, while its consumption is only occasional in Japan.
Types of sushi are the most common nigirizushi, consisting of a ball formed shari hand covered with a slice of neta, the Makizushi are nori rolls containing shari and other ingredients or chirashizushi composed of shari covered with various dishes.
It should not be confused with sashimi sushi, a Japanese dish consisting of sliced raw fish.
